General
What does MICK95 mean?
The name MICK95 derives from MAK95 – the name of its anaesthetic counterpart – which derives from the concept of MAC95. MAC95 is the minimum alveolar concentration of a volatile anaesthetic that will prevent movement in 95% of patients. I’ll leave it to you to follow the bread crumbs :p
Is there a version for iPad?
No, MICK95 is only available for Windows and Mac.
How do I get updates?
MICK95 receives updates automatically – new exam papers, as they are added, and any changes to the program itself.
License
I would like to use MICK95 on both my desktop and my laptop computers, is this possible?
Your license key allows you to activate the program on up to two computers. Just be aware that your data will not sync between the two computers, so it is best to mainly use your primary computer to track your progress and only use your secondary computer for ad hoc access to resources.
How can I transfer my license to a new computer?
The user license is locked to the first two computers that it was initially activated on. Please contact frank@mick95.com if you need to transfer your license to a new computer.
Troubleshooting
Windows
Windows Universal Runtime error
Universal Runtime is a necessary component for MICK95 to run and is included in Windows 10, but it may not be installed on your computer if you are using Windows 7 or 8. When you try to run MICK95, you may see the error message “The program can’t start because api-ms-win-crt-heap-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
To install Universal Runtime, download and install Visual C++ Redistributable from the Microsoft website:
The model answer PDFs do not display
Due to differences in Operating System, settings and installed PDF viewers, PDFs may not open properly in MICK95 on all computers. To work around this, from the Settings menu, choose Open PDFs → Externally
Mac
The model answer PDFs do not display or cause MICK95 to crash
MICK95 works best when Preview is your default PDF viewer. There is a known issue with Adobe Reader which uses deprecated technology and is no longer supported by Apple. If Adobe Reader plugins are installed, trying to open PDFs will cause MICK95 to crash. There are 2 solutions:
- Uninstall the problematic Adobe plugins
- Follow these instructions to delete AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
- You may also need to uninstall Adobe Reader
- From the Settings menu, choose Open PDFs → Externally
